Your Trip is analyzed and scored using our advanced telematics software which records your drive through the GPS signal from your phone. Your location and motion and fitness settings must be set to "Always Allow" to ensure that every Trip you take is accounted for.
If your trips are really short, our system applies a Short Trip Enhancement to help calculate a fair score. For example, if your trip is only 5 miles but we need 10 miles of data, we’ll combine it with your recent trips to reflect a more accurate picture of your driving.
Our technology adjusts for real-world factors like road types, weather, traffic, hills, and more, so you’re graded fairly.
The following driving skills are used to make up your overall driving score out of 100 possible points:
A risk event is any negative event that occurs while driving that results in a deduction from the user’s total score. This map will only display events that are at least a "medium" risk severity, but other less severe risks may still impact your total score without being visible on this map.
- Acceleration: Measures your tendency to accelerate hard relative to other drivers. Avoid aggressively pushing the accelerator. Instead, ease into pushing the gas pedal to reduce the number of harsh acceleration events.
- Brake: Measures your tendency to brake hard relative to other drivers. Constant harsh brakes indicate a lack of focus and inattentiveness. Avoid waiting until the last minute to brake and slow down gradually before a stop light or sign, etc.
- Cornering: Measures your tendency to turn rapidly around corners or turns. Slow down as you turn and avoid taking tight right or left turns while driving over 5 miles per hour. Slow down even more if you are driving a large, heavy vehicle.
- Steadiness: Measures harsh or frequent speed changes. Avoid tapping the accelerator harshly, followed by a sharp brake or a quick release of the accelerator.
- Swerve: Measures harsh or frequent direction or lane changes. Avoid frequently and suddenly changing lanes or moving laterally in a speedy fashion.
- Phone: Measures how much you are moving your phone around while driving, including picking it up or fiddling around with it. It is not tracked on screen touch. It’s important to place the phone in a secured area that does not move around, such as mounting it, etc.
- Speed: Measures speeding infractions. Stay under the posted speed limits to avoid a speeding limit violation. Speed limits are updated regularly, but please report any outdated ones.
- Eco: Measures how your driving behavior affects fuel economy. A higher eco score means higher fuel savings.
- Focus: Measures your reaction to driving situations by analyzing how much attention you are paying while driving. More focus means less distracted driving.
- Handling: Measures your voluntary driving choices by analyzing how smoothly and calmly you handle the vehicle. Better handling means less aggressive driving.
